KIERLAND AREA AZ

Kierland Area

Located in the Scottsdale Road resort corridor of northeast Phoenix directly bordering Scottsdale (and 30 minutes from Sky Harbor International Airport), the Kierland community includes resort/hotel accommodations, a clubhouse/golf course, vacation ownership, single- and multi-family residential units, commercial/retail services, commercial/office services, parks and open space. A 3-mile hike-and-bike trail inter-connects residential, schools, retail and recreation within the development, through which the six-lane, landscaped Greenway Parkway passes. Residents and guests also enjoy dramatic views of the surrounding McDowell Mountains and Pinnacle Peak.

History

Woodbine Development Corporation teamed with the Herberger family of Phoenix/Scottsdale to create the Kierland community on a 730-acre site owned by the Herbergers since the 1950s. Unanimously approved in 1991, its master plan was the largest rezoning case in Phoenix’s history. The first residential site sale was in 1993 to UDC Homes which called for the development of the Kierland Golf Club (open in 1996). The completion of the Kierland Commons followed in 2000, a 38-acre, award-winning mixed-use development that includes retail, dining, office and residential components. The Westin Kierland Resort & Spa opened in 2002 on a site surrounded by the golf course.
